Well I'm sure we have all seen the forecast for this week, lots and lots of rain and thunder storms with winds reaching 20mph on Thursday. Now you might say 20mph is nothing but when your trees aren't healthy, limbs are broken and hanging, or flat out dead it can be very dangerous to you, your family, and neighbors!!!!!!!!!! Get those trees taken care of sooner than later when you'll have a real problem on your hands.

The Asian Longhorned Beetle attacks Hardwood trees including Maple, Ash, and Elm. We are currently at high risk of an infestation. Known signs to watch for include:

Visible Asian longhorned beetles. Adult beetles have bullet-shaped bodies from 3/4 inch
to 1-1/2 inches long, shiny black with white spots and long striped antennae,
1-1/2 to 2-1/2 times the size of its body.

A series of chewed round depressions in the bark of a
tree

Pencil-sized, perfectly round tree exit holes

Excessive sawdust buildup near tree bases

Unseasonable yellowed or drooping leaves

The known signs of an infestation of the European Gypsy Moth are:

Visible egg masses: covered with buff or yellowish hair from the abdomen of the female
and averages about 1-1/2 inches long and about 3/4 of an inch wide

Visible caterpillars: newly hatched caterpillars are black and hairy. Later stages of
the larvae develop a mottled yellow to gray pattern with tufts of bristle-like
hairs and a distinctive color pattern of five pairs of blue dots followed by six
pairs of red dots along their backs.

Visible adult moths: male moths are brown with a darker brown pattern on their wings and
have a 1-1/2-inch wingspan. Females are slightly larger, with a two-inch
wingspan, and nearly white with dark saw-toothed patterns on their
wings.

Defoliated trees

The Known signs of and infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer are
Yellow, thin or wilted foliage, Unusual woodpecker presence and pecking holes, D-shaped
beetle exit holes, Shoots growing from roots or a tree's trunk, often with larger-than-normal
leaves. The Emerald Ash Borer attacks the Ash Trees.

The Emerald Ash Borer is under Federal Quarantine as well as the European Gypsy Moth but we all still need         to know and watch out for the signs of an infestation.
